Scout: Jinn Table Lamp

Junk Skull | May 08 2013 | 0 Comments

Table lamps come in many shapes and sizes and every now and again certain table lamps catch your attention, the Jinn from Vertigo Bird is such a lamp however, not only does it catch our attention aesthetically, technically its different.

The Jinn works 'upside down' if you like in the way that the lamp is positioned at the base of the lamp, it illuminates up wards through a central glass pipe, which then reflects back down through the central pipe and out to the sides rather than through the top.

The Jinn can be purchased either in a white or black colour and alternatively as a floor lamp if you prefer a bigger look. Despite its hefty price tag we still admire its curved and minimalistic design and think it would make a great addition to contemporary homes. To find out more visit here and buy from here.

Scout: Twizy Sport F1 Concept

Junk Skull | April 26 2013 | 0 Comments

OK we know this is a concept and will probably never see the light of day on any road or race track for that matter but what a concept!

Renaults crazy compact Twizy gets a complete overhaul here in the design and features department to give it an F! car look of sorts but performance to boot, using the same Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) from Renault's F1 cars, the Twizy Sport can boost nearly 100hp, dashing from 0-62 mph nearly as quickly as the flagship Mégane R.S. road car.

Despite the ridiculousness of this concept we think you still wouldn't say no to a test drive, would you?

Check out the new passport sleeve here.

Scout: Feedly

Junk Skull | March 14 2013 | 0 Comments

So yesterday came the news that the once popular, and possibly still popular but not for long Reader service from Google will close July 1st. The service for those who don't know was a central hub for RSS feeds from news and blogs sites, a place we regularly visited here at HQ to keep up with design blogs until we discovered an alternative.

That alternative is called feedly, a 3rd party Google Reader service, which displays articles, and content in a new fresh way that Reader was just never capable of doing. That’s not all though, feedly works across mobile and desktop platforms and supports many OS's with support for popular integrations such as Pocket, Instapaper etc etc.

With the news of Google's decision to close Reader it may have come as a surprise to some but certainly not a surprise to feedly who have been working on what it calls project Normandy. Normandy will actually make users life’s a lot less of a headache when the shut down occurs meaning, if you already use the feedly service it will be a smooth transition and you wont lose anything, hurrah for the internets!

However if you are not a user of feedly (where the hell have you been!) it will work all the same but you just have to take an extra step or two to sign up and ensure things will work fine. Hop on over to feedly's blog which details the news of project Normandy to find out more.

Scout: MOS "Magnetic Organization System"

Junk Skull | February 03 2013 | 0 Comments

Now here's a handy desk accessory for all you OCD freaks out there. The MOS accessory is a nifty magnetic base station if you will, that has accompanying magnetic clips that attach to all your pesky gadget cables that live in and around your desk.

Attaching the clips to the cables ensures that when they make contact with the base station they stay put!

Handy for those of you with multiple charging cables for phones, laptops and tablets, at least this way you will have one central place where you know all the ends of your cables will theoretically be found.

Supply: LED Baseball Bat Flashlight

Junk Skull | December 19 2012 | 0 Comments

It maybe Christmas day in under a week but that’s not stopping us from promoting products, why not ehy and what better product to promote than our new arrival to the store the LED baseball bat flashlight!

This 15" aluminium bat is not only sturdy and packs a good grip in the hand for decent self-protection, it has a bright LED bulb that shines one of those awesome beams in the nights sky like a Batman signal so will certainly illuminate the way more than comfortably.

It’s finished off in a gorgeous matt black finish and would make a great quirky gift to give or to buy for yourself, it could be used for all sorts of situations like when out walking the dogs, or cats... on a winter night. It could also be used for the back of ones car as a backup flashlight!

Alternatively If all else fails and the world does end on Friday then you could also use it to fight off the zombie apocalypse that will come after the devastation of the world erupting in to flames. Just make sure you have nice supply of type C batteries to hand as this baseball bat flashlight takes 3 to power its way through the dark.

Scout: Banjo Brasserie Bar Rooms

Junk Skull | November 30 2012 | 0 Comments

Bit of a local scout this one but boy oh boy what a scout. Banjo is a newly opened European-style grand brasserie located next to Jerey's main market in a restored 10,000 sq ft former Victorian Gentlemen's Club.

The entire space boasts two restaurants rooms a bar, three private dining and conference/event rooms for up to 150 people and four bedrooms. Not bad at all.

The design of Banjo is inspired by some of the most stunning urban brasseries and bars from around the world, whilst retaining the best features of the historic St Helier building that was purpose-built for entertaining and after visting last night it certainly stands up to its claim,  it has a great atmospehere and fantastic food.

Scout: Button 2.0

Junk Skull | October 26 2012 | 0 Comments

The mighty clothing button has been around for a very long time, but in all that time it hasn't really changed much and I guess it hasn't had to, until now. The rise of portable MP3 players and phones that let you listen to your tunes on the go also means carrying around a pair of cans or ear buds that inevitably have wires, unless your going super futuristic on us and using Bluetooth headphones where dangling cables aren't an issue...

This presents a problem of sorts, dangling cords are not cool so why not use a buttons side to guide and clip the cable vertically and keep them neat whilst your walking or cycling, which is where this thing will be most useful for. It's good to see fashion and tech mix in a practical way like this and fair play to the designer behind this, for more information visit here.
